Never sail on a Friday…

Image
Could have been us... There is a sailors superstition that it is bad luck to sail on a Friday. A lot of people keep this in mind when planning a sailing departure day. We never really gave that too much merit, until now. And by reading on ahead, you will see why. On the morning of Thursday December 20th we came to the conclusion after talking with our boating buddies about wind/wave & weather conditions, that we would leave the next day. Friday was always the day everyone agreed upon, but I was always rooting for Saturday. No one seemed to pay too much attention to my wishes….they were determined to leave sooner than later. Friday’s forecast looked ok but still was looking a little lumpy due too some big winds from the previous few days. Anyway…Friday it was!  I had to wrap my head around  a next day departure. I had been setting my sights on having  one more day to get everything done and at a leisurely pace. No such luck! Lots of scrambling around occur...

We gotta get outta this place....

December 4th we arrived in San Carlos Mexico in the late afternoon. We made it through the border at Nogales with ease. We were boarded soon after entering the border into Mexico but the man that entered our RV was very friendly and ended up just basically sitting down on our sofa petting Harley. He called her Gordita! Interesting she’s gotten that nickname here in Mexico. I really don’t think she is THAT fat! Anyway, he walked from one end of the coach to the other briefly shining a flashlight up at the ceiling and down on the floor along the cupboards, petted Harley a few more times and then told us to , “Enjoy”…sounded like EnYoy, and then alighted from our vehicle.  So on we drove keeping our eyes open for KM21 (the place where you get your Visa’s). We got in and out of there…no lines, and continued on to San Carlos. We arrived at Marina Seca (the dry storage where Solastra had been all summer) in San Carlos first thing to make arrangements to have our boat ...

On the road...

Just getting on the Highway On the road in Wyoming...roads are clear... We left our snow-kissed Custer South Dakota property on the 28th of November in our RV. It was iffy whether we would be making it up the driveway in the snow, but all went well…no problem! We drove to USC Colorado Veterinary Teaching Hospital straight away, which took us about 4 1/2 hours and spent the night in the parking lot. Next morning, Harley had her appointment where she was put under sedation and was x-rayed.  A few hours later, the veterinarian told us everything looked great and Harley’s surgery site was healing nicely. They were very happy with her recovery so far. But…Harley still has to remain calm and on leash supervision for four more months. She can only have 2 - thirty minute walks per day on a leash. Still no jumping, running or playing with other dogs. Swimming, the vet said, would be awesome for her just as long as she is careful getting in and out of the water. HA! She has not ...
